What Is a Scholarship?

A scholarship is a financial aid award designed to help students pay for their degrees. They can go from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. Some scholarships are a one-time check, others can be renewed every year or semester.

There are a lot of scholarships out there. However, they can be hard to find if you don’t know where to look. Here are some of the places where you can easily find scholarships and bursaries.

The Government

The federal and provincial governments offer scholarships for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students. Many of them are open to international students who are looking to study in Canada. The prizes are often larger sums than from any other source, many being over 10 000$ non-renewable.


Private Scholarships

Private scholarships are financial aid that is funded by companies, individuals, organizations, service groups and foundations. They are not as popular as other scholarships, therefore there are not as many applicants.

There are online databases for scholarships to make the search for the right one easier for you. From small to large sum scholarships, you can apply to as many as you want.

This database offers a variety of scholarships, bursaries, and other means of funding such as surveys or research studies, exclusively curated for Canadian students and international students looking to study in Canada.

Scholarship Portal
Scholarship Portal lists scholarships for schools all over the world, from undergraduate students to Ph.D. students.

How to Apply


When you apply for a scholarship, you may have to write an essay, answer some questions, or anything else that gives you the chance to demonstrate why you are the best candidate.
